from http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3261077 It is possible to re-program the RD68 without the software, I have done it. When I changed boats, which reminds me I need to get my user name changed on here. I wanted to swap the radios over. I got my Standard Horizon reprogrammed to the new boat mmsi quite easily (Seamark Nunn) but struggled to find someone with the software for the Simrad. I called a local company that was listed as being a Simrad repairer who although said they didn't deal with radios had a Simrad Technical Bulletin and emailed it to me. Behind the front panel is a solder link that when shorted out and the radio powered up. It has to be soldered as its just 2 connections on the PCB. You can then enter a new mmsi. You then remove the link. I did find it completely erased the rest of the memory. It’s quite fiddly and needs a fine soldering iron, ideally an electronics type with a sucker to suck up the solder when removing the link. Also good eyes or magnifying glass are essential. If you PM me with an email address I will forward it on. It does also cover other Simrad models, some say only possible using software.
